A totally chilled Newborn session from snuggle to snooze!
So…I’m guessing you’re here because you’re in the process of baking a little bun to perfection. How utterly fabulous!
And in amongst researching the pram, the car seat, the steriliser, the moses basket etc. you might have started to think about the whole newborn photography thing. If you’ve landed here on your search then that makes me very happy because there’s nothing I love more than a wee snuggle with a newborn (that I get to return at the end of the session!). Lol!
But it can be quite tricky trying to figure out who to go with for your photoshoot and much of your decision will depend on the style of images you have in mind.
So I figured that it might help if I showed you what a newborn session looks like from start to finish and then you can get a feel for how I work and what the results are like.
We start off nice and chilled
I’ll begin by getting some natural shots of your newborn, probably just in a white vest. White vests are great because the focus of the image is then completely on your gorgeous new addition.
Quite often your baby will be awake for this part of the session and that’s absolutely fine. We’ll use this time to tire them out a bit and get some eyes open shots too.
Then we can change them.
If you have a particular outfit you’d like them photographed in, this is when we attempt to do it. Every newborn is different so every session is different too. We just go with the flow.
This is usually the part of the session that the outfits knitted by a granny are brought out. The special things that are completely unique to you and your baby.
P.s. While all of this is going on, you and your other half are chilling out in my little family room next to the studio. There is a coffee machine, drinks, snacks, Wi-Fi and a snooze inducing couch. Yes…you are SO allowed to have a snooze if you need it!
Then we wrap….
Let the wrapping begin…
Even if your baby has been wide awake up until now, wrapping them will usually help them to nod off. They are pretty used to being snug as a bug. It’s their happy place! We can do a selection of different wraps but a lot will depend on your baby on the day.
Then we start to include the whole family…fur babies too!
Dad gets hands on!
Mum & Me moments…
Even if you’re not feeling your most photogenic I encourage you to get some images of you on your own with your baby. It’s less about how you look and more about showing the connection you have with your newborn. You will never regret being in the images but you may well regret not being in them!
And then if no-one is needing fed, winded or changed by this point we see what else we can get out of them.
And that’ a wrap!
So this is what it looks like from start to finish (minus the bum changes and mid session feed!).
If you think this is exactly what you have in mind for a newborn session then get in touch and let’s get planning! I can’t wait to hear all about your baby bump!
